Save-On-Foods has a long standing history of strong community support through of strong relationships with the community and do their best to respond to the growing demand for sponsorship support—that’s all part of their 'Own Local' values. However, this adhoc approach has challenged Save-On-Foods’ ability to capture the great community-level support and channel it into a larger companywide impact story. Through a more cohesive and tactical approach to their partnerships portfolio, their brand had an opportunity to take a stronger position over a specific sponsorship territory.
In collaboration with TORQUE Strategies, an internal cross-functional team comprised of Marketing, Nutrition, Merchandising, Loyalty/Rewards, Analytics, IT, E-Commerce, and Store Operations was assigned to identify the 'building blocks' for a standardized, scalable and efficient sponsorship program that would provide a natural and authentic intersection between Save-On-Foods core business and the communities in which they serve.
Operating under a confidential working title, the team developed a pilot program ('Pilot 1') to validate the UVP of the initiative and gain insights on a variety of other future state variables prior to allocating any incremental resources.

The pilot was paused shortly after launching in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton in response to safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, though plans remain to resume operations in the future.
